B432 Printer Errors
This knowledge base article shows you common B432 Printer Errors encountered when using this model for producing number plates. When a problem is detected the attention LED on the operator panel will light up and the display screen will say what type of error it is or indicate an error code. Paper mentioned here refers to any compatible media type.

Toner & Drum Errors
Error | Code | Description |

TONER LOW | NO CODE | The toner cartridge has or will soon reach its end of life, prepare a replacement cartridge. |
REPLACE TONER | 413: TONER EMPTY | Toner Empty - replace the toner cartridge and then press [OK]. |
CHECK TONER CARTRIDGE | 547: IMPROPER LOCK LEVER POSITION | Check that the blue knob of the toner cartridge is locked. Check cartridge is installed corectly & then gently tap the toner cartridge to loosen any clumps/blockages. |
ORDER DRUM | NO CODE | The drum unit has or will soon reach its end of life, prepare a replacement image drum. |
REPLACE IMAGE DRUM | 353: DRUM LIFE | The image drum indicated has reached its end of life. Replace the image drum and then press [OK]. Opening and closing the front cover can resume printing for a while. |
PRINTING STOPPED | 563: DRUM LIFE | Printing Stopped Because Image Drum End of Life. Replace the image drum and then press [OK]. |
SENSOR ERROR | 543: CHECK AND RESET IMAGE DRUM | Image Drum Sensor Error - Reseat or install the image drum again and then press [OK]. |
CAUTION: NON-GENUINE CONSUMABLE DETECTED | 709 | We do not approve the use of non-genuine consumables for making number plates. OKI indicate you can use any consumable / maintenance parts you want but do not recommend it. To continue with non-genuine consumables follow the indicated procedure, which is recorded by the printer. |
When your B432 printer detects an empty Toner Cartridge or Image Drum, it will indicate it the display screen. OKI printers may even cease their current print job due to empty toner & drum issues. If you’re getting drum sensor errors, first try taking the drum out of the machine and try installing it again. Alternately, this error may occur if the toner cartridge isn’t fitted correctly. Try taking it off and on again.

OPEN UPPER COVER | 400: PAPER SIZE ERROR | A paper size error has occurred in the indicated tray. Reload paper/media correctly and then press [ONLINE]. Multiple sheets may need loading to trigger the sensor. |
MP TRAY MEDIA MISMATCH | 460 | The media type of paper in Multipurpose Tray is different. Load paper of the displayed type, and then press (ONLINE). Multiple sheets may need loading to trigger the sensor. |
LOAD [PAPER_SIZE] | 490: MP TRAY EMPTY | No paper is loaded in Multipurpose Tray, load paper of the displayed size. Multiple sheets may need loading to trigger the sensor. |
LOAD [PAPER_SIZE] | 491: TRAY1 EMPTY | No paper is loaded in Tray 1. Load paper of the displayed size in Tray 1. |
CLOSE FACE UP STACKER | 581: DUPLEX NOT AVAILABLE | The faceup stacker is opened. When performing duplex printing, close the rear cover and faceup stacker |
The OKI B432 will inform the user when it encounters a variety of media related problems. Most messages will be about empty trays or incorrect paper size, fix these by re-filling with paper or media of the right size.
When printing number plates, make sure your default settings or printer preferences are set to use multipurpose tray as manual feed. If printing doesn’t start (error code – 490), check the black paper detection sensor lever (A) located on the right side of the paper feed roller is lowered (image below). Load a stack of plate media instead of single sheets, the idea is to lower the sensor using the media’s weight.

OPEN REAR COVER | 372: PAPER JAM | A paper jam has occurred near the duplex printing unit. Open the printers rear cover and remove the jam from the Rollers. |
OPEN UPPER COVER | 380: PAPER JAM - Inside Printer | A paper jam has occurred during paper feed. Open the top cover, remove the drum and clear the jam from under the Resist Guide. |
OPEN UPPER COVER | 381: PAPER JAM - Paper Output Part | A paper jam has occurred during paper feed. Open the top cover, remove the drum and clear the jam from under the Image Drum. |
OPEN UPPER COVER | 382/385: PAPER JAM - Paper Output Part | A paper jam has occurred during paper feed. Open the top cover, remove the drum and clear the jam from above (382) or below (385) under the Belt Unit. |
CHECK MP TRAY | 390: PAPER JAM - Multipurpose Tray | A paper jam has occurred during paper feed. Open the top cover and pull the jam out from the feed rollers. |
OPEN UPPER COVER | 391/392: PAPER JAM | A paper jam has occurred in the Tray 1 (391) or Tray 2 (392) cassette. Pull out the cassette, reload paper and reinsert the cassette. Check the paper feed and remove jams. |
