Coach Lines & Borders

Alongside the legally required number plate elements, are optional ones like Coach Lines or borders. Although they’re optional, they are still subject to the standards and regulations. And this includes spacing, which means not all number plate sizes have room for one.

Line Size & Position

To put it simply your coach lines must be placed at least 10mm from the Registration Number. In addition, no matter what colour it is, borders cannot be reflective either. This is so it doesn’t effect the Registrations visibility, even on ANPR cameras.
Optional Number Plate Borders or Coach Lines
If present, a border of up to 5mm thick is permitted on your number plates. Although this does mean not all plate sizes can accommodate one. In fact we created 3 new component sizes because of size limitations. Ensuring standard cars, 4×4 and motorbikes can display number plates with them.

Styling or Branding

Your options when it comes to branding your number plates are quite limited. But then, they are supposed to be a means of vehicle identification. Nevertheless you can match your borders colour with your supplier identifier. Creating some basic synergy, by simply using your brands colour.

Our Plates Software

Our Plates Builder holds all the controls you need to add a Coach Line, highlighted on the image above. You can see it sits right below the Tag Line section. And it contains options for you to turn it on, choose a single colour and tweak the gap. This gap is used for your Supplier Identifier or bottom line. By default our software will insert another gap, used for the BS Number.
