Class R3C Reflective
Created as an addition to the UK BS EN 12899-1:2007 specification, Class R3C is used to identify the highest-performing reflective by technical approval. Oralite 9910, 3M Diamond Grade DG³ and Avery Dennison T-11500 all meet Class R3C specifications.
Retroreflectivity
Class R3C materials typically offer high retroreflectivity, returning more light to their source than other classes. This performance is vital in ensuring that traffic signs are visible at night or high speeds when illuminated by vehicle headlights.
Construction
R3C materials are composed of microprismatic or encapsulated lenses. This complex construction places prisms or lenses into transparent or metallised layers as reflectors. Surrounding the retroreflective section are protective, coloured & adhesive layers.
Specification
R3C specifications require materials to reach minimum Retroreflectivity levels. A cone of visibility is measured using different light sources and observation angles. Class R3C has the highest minimum levels of all reflective classes.
Durability
Traffic sign films endure various environmental conditions while maintaining performance and integrity. Specific resistances include UV radiation, extreme temperatures and moisture from weathering, which are crucial for long-term performance.
